Make more compelling castles, towers, and other fortifications with the Strongholds Hexploration Deck!
Packed with system‑neutral locations and traits, this deck helps you quickly generate engaging fortifications for any tabletop RPG. Each card offers evocative ideas—from majestic palaces to cities built around a castle to humble forts or tower ruins—perfect for filling hex (or non-hex) maps and inspiring improv quest ideas. Whether your party is charting unknown territory, surviving harsh landscapes, or uncovering long-lost secrets, these cards keep exploration fresh and unpredictable. Ideal for worldbuilding, session prep, or on‑the‑fly improvisation, Along the Way brings your campaign’s travel to life.
  • It has 40 Location cards each with a picture on one side, and a series of options related to a place like that on the other side. Use your own creativity to customize and expand the result to fit your setting. Examples: Copper Palace, Astonomer's Holt, and Duke's Residence.
  • Trait cards can modify your locations to make them even more distinctive and interesting. Each side of each of these 10 cards has a theme. For example, you may start with 'Raider Fort' but choose the the 'Hidden Evil Chapel' or 'Magically Warded' concepts to make it different!
  • Reference cards provide ideas and more charts! For this deck, these cards cover fortification strengths & weaknesses, jobs, threats, and rumors of a stronghold.

Note: The PDF is set up to be printed duplex (two-sided), 4 cards per page.  So the upper right card on the front side of each page matches up to the upper left card on the back side. There are also white marks near the corners of each card which are guides to use when cutting the cards.  This extra area (1/8") on the edge of each card is called a "bleed" which is intended to be cut away. It allows a card to still look good even if the cut isn't perfect or if the front and back prints aren't perfectly aligned.  You'll also get versions where each side of each card is a small 2.5"x3.5" page and another with 0.125" of 'bleed' added; yet another PDF with 9 cards per page without bleed, and a folder where each side of each card is an image.
