Inspired by classic rock, this bestiary of 54 new monsters riffs on ideas from a band name or song title such as Eyes Without a Face, Freebird, and Twisted Sisters. Each monster’s actions and lore may pay further homage by alluding to lyrics or other aspects of a band, but the designs focus on making intriguing foes.
The book also includes magic items with concepts likewise based on band names and song titles: Rolling Stones, Weapon of Choice, and Message in a Bottle–16 in all!
Rock and Roar! has two versions, one with stats for the Old-School Essentials RPG (a faithful clone of B/X Dungeons and Dragons) and another for the Shadowdark RPG (a streamlined, old-school spin on 5E D&D).

Not only does each creature have game stats, but each includes a short origin or ecology info (like the old Dragon Ecology articles) and a chart or two of tools and options for that creature (inspired by The Monster Overhaul).
